Concerning Mosaic...
Mosaic was planted in 2008 with a vision for the church to have a presence in downtown Birmingham. Downtown for us has always stood out as one of the few places in Birmingham where there is socio-economic and racial diversity. It is an intersection of life for the metro area and even before the change downtown was happening, Kris really thought it was important for the church of Jesus and the good news of the gospel to be a part of seeing restoration and healing to Birmingham. He felt coming back and having a presence where so many others had fled, and were afraid to come back, could really make a difference.
The church started by meeting in his home, and eventually, it met in a space on Sunday
mornings on the corner of 1st Ave North and 23rd street. After a couple of years, it quickly
outgrew the small spot and began to meet in the mornings at The Avon Theater. We were there
for 7.5 years .

... the move to Workplay & the Battery
From The Avon, we had a small stop at a concert venue downtown, Workplay Theater. We were there almost two years until we moved into our most recent location at the Battery. The Battery was the closest thing we’ve ever had to our own space. Our first service here was a Christmas service in December 2019. Throughout the 11-year history of the church, we had always had to set up and tear down every Sunday for worship and never had permanent classrooms or offices. We are forever grateful for that stage of our journey. Unfortunately, the newness of our space and the excitement of stepping into a longer term commitment quickly went away. The pandemic meant we now had to navigate the difficulty of being a community and family of faith while separated physically. After 6 years, it was time to move again.
A Place to Call Home ...
We began outgrowing the size of our classrooms and the number of rooms we had, and it was time for a place that we could put down roots. As much of our congregation has remained over the years, they have moved from living downtown to living in neighborhoods and houses throughout the metro area. We still have the same passion to be a church where there is an intersection of many different walks of life. And we still want to be a voice for healing and restoration, embracing the history of our city, acknowledging the sin and also the glorious future available through the coming of the kingdom here in Birmingham as it is in Heaven. Many of our families live in Homewood, and we really love the opportunity to be a church in an area we feel connected to and want to see thrive. We see the amazing history of Rosedale, and we love the proximity to downtown. The area feels like a perfect balance of who we were and who we are, and really feels like a natural extension of the heartbeat and mission we’ve felt from the start. It feels like a natural continuation and growth for our people.
