In Birmingham as it is in Heaven - from the highest office to the darkest street.

What We Believe

JESUS

This is where it all begins.

Jesus was a man who claimed to be God. Think on that for a minute. He had no empire, no army, and no wealth to call his own. He was born in an insignificant place to an insignificant people, and was executed because of the outrageous claims he made about himself. The crowds that followed him in the beginning were the same as those who called for his crucifixion at the end. Even his closest disciples abandoned him after his arrest. He died a humiliating death being mocked and scorned by all around him.

2,000 years later, Jesus remains the most controversial figure in all of human history. Hundreds of millions regard him as the Savior of all mankind, while hundreds of millions more consider him a wise prophet, a good teacher, and an example of humanitarianism and charity that few can equal. History itself is divided by his birth. How does that happen? How does an insignificant and apparently mentally unstable carpenter overshadowed by perhaps the greatest empire in all of history (Rome), go from being killed as a heretic to becoming the single greatest name in all the world? In a word...resurrection.

At Mosaic Birmingham, we believe that Jesus is exactly who he said he was. We believe that Jesus is God. We believe that three days after his crucifixion the most amazing and monumental event in time and space occurred as he physically and bodily arose from the dead. Because of this, everything we do is all about Jesus. We understand this can be difficult to grasp, and that many come from backgrounds or traditions completely at odds with this. We hope that whatever you make of this, you'll find Mosaic to be a place where you can ask questions, wrestle with doubts, and walk alongside others in community as God works through the Holy Spirit to teach us the truth about his Son, Jesus, the Christ.

APOSTLES' CREED

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

CORE VALUES

Witness is why the Church exists. ― The Church is about proclaiming, not clinging. Every follower of Jesus is commissioned by God to be a herald of the good news.

Love is the context for all Witness. ― The Church is relational, not programmatic. Every follower of Jesus is part of a larger community.

The Spirit and the Word are the structure for Witness. ―The Spirit of God lives and reigns, and is leading us all to live in the will of God in line with what we find in scripture.

CorE CONVICTIONS

  • Jesus Christ is the only hope for a lost and broken world.
  • The Bible is God’s authoritative word to us.
  • The local church is God’s agent for redemptive change.

Every follower of Christ is called and commissioned by God to serve and help love those without faith journey back to God through Christ.

Mosaic Birmingham is a community of belonging, believing, and becoming where we value the journey together towards meaning, community, and purpose.

NAMESAKE

We are a community of followers of Jesus Christ, committed to live by faith, to be known by love, and to be a voice of hope. The name of our community comes from the diversity of our members and from the symbolism of a broken and fragmented humanity which can become a work of beauty under the artful hands of God.

We welcome people from all walks of life, regardless of where they are in their spiritual journey. Come to Mosaic, and discover how all the pieces can fit together!
