The Update // 3.25.20

Good Afternoon Mosaic,

We are here with a weekly update. It is nice to stay connected even if it is via email.  A regular weekly email has long been a to-do, and we have threatened on many occasion to get The Update running again so maybe this is something small that can carry forward from all of this.

We hope you find yourself doing the same. Finding those things that can carry forward. In the midst of this global pandemic, what are the invitations of the Spirit that you find before you? Many of us have opined, even lamented, that we wish we had more time. Which really is sort of silly if you think about it, today, this week, there is the exact same amount of time given to us as there was two weeks ago, now we just can't fill as full as we did before.

I've long justified my lack of deep cleaning with the excuse that we are just too busy and we just don't have the time in this season of life. Ten days into being quarantined in our house and not a rag has touched a wall or baseboard. It might be time, that I admit that I just don't like to clean, or simply don't do it. Mid way through week two and you may already be realizing the same about yourself. What feels like "all the time in the world," and you still just can't force yourself to do __________.

Now, I'm not suggesting that cleaning or sending emails are profound invitations from the Spirit. Or, maybe they could be at least they could be in the fact that they can reveal things about us. This moment in some way forces us to self examine, excuses that we have long hidden behind to avoid reality are going to get exposed. Beyond daily cleaning and maybe some physical or mental health practices like reading more or taking a daily walk, lies a whole deeper list of things we always wanted more time for, like more time with our kids or spouse. It's like we've known deep down that just being present and near could strengthen relationships and potentially heal wounds, and yet as we get that time we may be trying to figure out what to do with it, or realize that it was potentially ourselves we have been avoiding all along.

Same can be said of spiritual practices and disciplines. The life of a believer really is a continual invitation to draw near to Jesus and practices like prayer and scripture reading have long been proven to be the best way to do that. And, like so many other things we have continually talked about, we just feel that don't have the time to pray like that or read like that.

Whatever practices you may find yourself picking up in all of this, the invitation to draw near to God stands, as it has since the beginning of time. And, that's our prayer in all of this, that we could find ourselves drawing near to the Lord, and hopefully to those nearest to us and as a result that we could find ourselves more deeply rooted in our faith and our relationships strengthened.

All of the above is the driving point behind the updates we have made to the website and why we are trying to get content and resources out to you. I will also add that there are a lot of other really great churches doing the same and it is incredibly enriching.

So as a reminder:

  • ALL Mosaic gatherings are canceled through April 6th.

  • That means no small groups or gathered corporate worship.

Zoom, Zoom, Zoom:

  • We will again have an online prayer meeting Friday via Zoom.

  • Zoom is also how are small groups are continuing to meet.

  • The current plan for this coming Sunday is host our Sunday gathering via Zoom again as well.

    • Friday morning we will email out the links for both the prayer meeting and our Sunday gathering.
