At Mosaic, we structure our kids ministry (Nursery - 5th Grade) on Sundays around the God’s Big Story Curriculum.
God's Big Story invites children to enter into the narrative of God's abounding faithfulness and love for all of his beloved children. Our aim is that children and their teachers might hear the gospel of Jesus Christ, know Jesus as their Lord and Savior and experience the fullness of new life in Christ as part of His body, the church.
The curriculum is rooted in the incredible truth that God has come to rescue his children from their own sin through his Son Jesus Christ. It explores the biblical narrative from creation and the fall to Jesus' sacrificial victory on the cross to the promise of a new heaven and earth. GBS is taught in the context of worship through liturgy, song, scripture memory, story presentation, wondering questions, catechesis (teaching of doctrine and the faith), prayer, and many reflective and creative responses geared to a variety of age groups.
Our Kids Ministry is led by a team of volunteers, with each age group having their own team lead.
The age groups on a Sunday morning are as follows:
The Nursery (sitting up to under 3) room is open for the whole service. They do some free play, songs, a weekly lesson going through Ten Biblical Truths, a snack of goldfish, and a coloring sheet. The team lead for this class is Chelsey Seagreen.
Little Ones (3 years to PreK) has the classroom open the whole service, but a structured lesson from the PreK unit of God’s Big Story in the second half of the service. They start with worship and prayer, complete a lesson, have playdough/coloring/craft response time, read the Bible story associated with the lesson while eating a snack, and end with prayer time again. The team lead for this class is April Killough.
The Primary Class (Kindergarten to 1st grade) follows the Year A curriculum of the God’s Big Story. They meet for the second half of the service. They start with worship and prayer before the lesson, respond with a coloring sheet, prayer table, or retell the story with materials, then they read the Bible story associated with the lesson while eating a snack, and end with prayer time again. The team lead for this class is Anna Marie Miller.
The Elementary Class (2nd to 5th grade) follows the Year E curriculum of God’s Big Story. They meet in the conference room during the second half of the service for prayer, lesson, and response. This class specifically prays through the various missional partners that Mosaic supports. The team lead for this class is Rachel Mason.
Our curriculum and classes during the worship service end in after 5th grade, however, Youth (6th grade and up) is not left out. This age group is led by Beka Duvall. They stay in the service for the sermon with a special note sheet and are given ways to connect to the church through service and mentorship.
Volunteer / parental questions can be answered specifically by each team lead or by contacting one of our lead pastors. For scheduling questions and general inquiries, email kids@mosaicbirmingham.com.
